F-Stop Photographic Society invites all members of the Photographic Society of South Africa (PSSA) world wide, and all photographers resident in South Africa, to take part in our 2nd National Digital Salon. The salon is conducted within the requirements and practices prescribed by PSSA.

The full category definitions, including the monochrome definition and the nature rules, are on page 3 of the brochure. Images that do not meet a category's definition are disqualified by the judges.

Awards

  • A PSSA Silver Medal for the overall winner in each category.
  • A Club Silver Medal for the runner-up in each category.
  • Certificates of Merit according to PSSA guidelines.

How to enter

  1. Enter online at www.photovaultonline.com.
  2. Up to four images per category, JPEG, maximum 2 MB, maximum 1920 pixels wide or 1080 pixels high, preferably in the sRGB colour profile. Borders are optional within those sizes.
  3. No title, watermark or identification of the maker may be visible on the image. Every image needs a unique title; titles such as "Untitled" or camera file names are not acceptable.
  4. Pay the entry fee by EFT (no cash or cheque deposits) and attach your proof of payment as a PDF to your PhotoVault entry. Entries with insufficient fees or without proof of payment are rejected.
  5. PhotoVault sends an acknowledgement automatically. If you receive none within three working days, contact the Salon Director.

Judging

Images are judged live, each category by a panel of three judges. Every image is scored by all three judges and the sum of the three scores is the final score. Judging takes place on Saturday 20 February 2027.

Where two or more judges find that an image does not conform to the definition of its category, the image is rejected. Disqualifications are referred to the PSSA Salon Committee for verification.

Conditions of entry in brief

  • No AI-created or AI-altered images. All parts of the image must be photographed by the author, who must hold the copyright and keep the original RAW or unretouched JPEG with EXIF data intact. Original files may be requested for any category.
  • Manipulation is strictly prohibited in the Nature and Travel & Street categories: only cropping, straightening, perspective correction, flipping, removal of sensor dust and lens faults, global and selective tone adjustments, full conversion to greyscale monochrome, and exposure blending, HDR or focus stacking that stays faithful to the scene.
  • An image may be used only once in the salon, in one category and one version. Monochrome and colour versions of the same image count as the same image, and so do "sister images" with little discernible difference.
  • Images accepted in a previous F-Stop national salon may not be entered again.
  • Judges may not enter the categories they judge. Close family of a judge may enter those categories but cannot win medals. Members of a judging club are not eligible for the top awards in that category.
  • No late entries. Submission of entries signifies acceptance of the conditions of entry.
