Competition Rules
Competitions are about learning, improving, and having fun. Winning is exciting, but the real value is in the feedback, growth, and inspiration you gain along the way.
Competitions are a big part of our club activities and a great way to learn, improve, and showcase your photography. To keep things fair and consistent, the following rules apply:
Eligibility
-
Competitions are open to paid-up members in good standing.
-
Images must be the original work of the member entering them. Copies of other people’s work are NOT permitted. Disciplinary action will be taken against any author disregarding the principle.
Submissions
-
All entries must be submitted via PhotoVaultOnline.com by the closing date specified for each competition.
-
Late entries cannot be accepted.
-
Members are responsible for ensuring their images are uploaded in the correct category and format.
- Members’ images can be submitted ONLY ONCE. If a member is not happy with the award given for an image it may be re-submitted at the next meeting but the member forfeits the award already given.
Categories
-
The Club follows PSSA categories and salon definitions (see [PSSA Salon Definitions link]).
-
Categories may include Nature, Open, Portrait, Scapes, Creative/Altered Reality, and more, depending on the competition.
Image Rules
-
Each image must be entirely the work of the photographer.
-
Use of AI-generated elements is not allowed, unless explicitly permitted by PSSA definitions.
-
Images may not infringe on copyright or the rights of others.
-
The same image (or substantially similar versions) may not be entered more than once in a single competition.
- It must be emphasized that the same or similar image may not be renamed as a new entry.
- The same or similar image cannot be re-submitted under a new title using cropping, monochrome, or any manipulation tools to change the original appearance. The image will be disqualified.
Judging
-
Judging is carried out by accredited judges or experienced photographers in line with PSSA judging guidelines.
-
Scores and feedback are provided to help members learn and grow.
-
The judge’s decision is final.
Grading & Advancement
-
Members are graded according to Club rules (e.g., 1 Star through 5 Star).
-
Advancement is based on accumulated competition points and set criteria determined by the Club Committee.
Conduct
-
Members are expected to respect judges’ feedback and fellow competitors.
-
Any disputes must be raised politely with the Committee — not with the judge.
